One year ago this past weekend (September 23-25), filming commenced on the most ambitious project in the 15-year history of "Mark of the Wolf": a short film entitled "Prey: Cole's Story".
This film goes a bit deeper into the mythology of MOTW as it focuses on one young man, Cole Blevins, as he deals with his werewolf curse. As the story unfolds, he will be involved in several situations that will have him walking the line between keeping his humanity and giving in to the monster inside him.
As its writer/director, this project meant a big deal to me. I found myself putting this story together, that this one will be different from the ones I've seen over the years. And as I've presented the script to those involved, all of them are in agreement that this story is definitely unique and one that should be told.
I came up with the story a few years back, and after several instances where filming started and stopped numerous times (due to a wide variety of things, from the pandemic, to weather delays, to many changes involving the cast and crew), production began on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022.
By the time principal photography ended on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, we had a fully complete film, thanks to the men and women involved. Working in front of and behind the cameras, the chemistry and camaraderie all of us shared over these past three days really made this film come together.
To honor the one year anniversary of production, below are a few behind the scenes photos from the shoot. In addition to the three shooting days from last year, we also did a few more shooting days -- spread out over several months -- to do a few pickup shots in order to round out the film.
Right now, "Prey" is currently in the middle of post production, as the scenes are being put together for the rough cut. Once that's done, things will move on to the final cut, where original music will be added, and some VFX work will be done to give it some polish before it's finally completed. I hope that it will be done in the next couple of months, and then after that, well, we'll see where this goes.
In the coming months, we'll unveil an official trailer -and possibly a few more related videos- for the film. And, we'll also have an official poster, as well as several photos profiling all the characters who will be a part of this story. I can't wait for everyone to see this film. Stay tuned...
